Blue Crayfish Information

  • Species -- Cambarus monongalensis

  • Where Found -- Betty Zane Road, Wheeling (Ohio County)

  • Gender -- Male

  • Habitat -- Burrows with dirt heaped near opening to tunnel

  • Food -- May eat decaying vegetation & earthworms. (Ours does!)

All crayfish are arthropods, meaning "jointed feet or legs".  They have gills and an exoskeleton. If you find a blue crayfish, don't catch it to keep it, but email strongli@westliberty.edu and tell Libby where you saw it and anything you noticed about it's habitat.
