International Observe the Moon Night

Join us for an evening of Citizen Lunar Science

@ SMART Centre Market, 30 22nd Street, Wheeling, West Virginia


5:00 pm

Sidewalk Telescopic Daytime Lunar Astronomy will begin outside the doors of Wheeling’s interactive science store, SMART Centre Market, giving the public the opportunity to telescopically view the magnified Moon’s surface first hand before the main presentation.


6:15 pm

Dr. Charles A. “Chuck” Wood will give a 30-minute presentation and discussion titled “The Moon - the Most Fascinating Object in the Night Sky”.


Chuck Wood is the local lunar expert in Wheeling, West Virginia.  Chuck has been studying the Moon and performing lunar research for nearly half a century.  Chuck is currently Director of the Center for Educational Technologies at Wheeling Jesuit University and is a telecommuting staff member at the Planetary Science Institute in Tucson, Arizona.

Sunset Telescopic MoonWatch with Chuck Wood.


7:30 pm

Sidewalk Telescopic Lunar Photography – bring your digital cameras and cell phones and take your very own spectacular lunar images.


8:00 pm

Sidewalk Telescopic StarWatch begins.


9:00 pm

International Observe the Moon Night event concludes.



Note: in case of inclement weather, Moon related activities will be hosted by the SMART-Center and Near Earth Object Foundation.  This is a FREE family oriented event.  We encourage parents and grandparents to bring children to the International Observe the Moon Night event.
