GEMS Camp 2021 "Place-based Engineering: Be a a Tourist in your Hometown"

Who is eligible to attend? Girls entering grades 5-8 in school year 2021
When is it held? July 19 and 20, 2021 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Where is it held? Most sessions are held at SMART Center Market, 30 22nd Street, Wheeling, WV with a walking tour to the Wheeling Suspension Bridge and WV Independence Hall on July 20 in the morning. (wear comfortable shoes!)
What does the camp cost? The camp is FREE thanks to a generous grant from the Women's Giving Circle through the Community Foundation for the Ohio Valley.
What types of activities will take place? Hands-on science, math, and engineering activities emphasizing bridges, arches, and other aspects architecture and engineering. A Wheeling architecture/engineering field trip will be led by Wendy Scatterday, Jeanne Finstein, and Libby Strong. We will walk to the Wheeling Suspension Bridge and then to WV Independence Hall for a tour and lunch.
Are meals and snacks included? Yes. Lunch and snacks will be provided each day. Just let us know of food allergies.
Who are the instructors and assistants? Libby Strong and Robert Strong will lead most sessions at SMART Centre Market assisted by Zara Zervos. Wendy Scatterday and Jeanne Finstein will lead conversation about Wheeling architecture and history on our walking tour.
Are materials provided? Yes. Each participant will also be eligible to choose materials for STEM learning after the camp.
